Julia Bloop - Out of the Bloop

Sitting on the beach in Kekaha, Kauai, the sun has a few more hours before it rises away from view. Sleep has settled like a fog, all is quiet, only the crash of waves can be heard. In the distant horizon, a silhouetted land mass holds firm focus. This is the island of Niʻihau. Protected, forbidden, a place only natives can travel to and from. There are satellite views, also select trips to the northern uninhabited part of the island, beyond this, there is extremely limited knowledge of the small village residing there. Tonight is special, the ocean is relatively quiet and the wind pushes from there to here, throwing a sonic pass exactly on target. Traveling the seventeen miles without corruption, beautiful melodies are heard with welcome. They are clear and magical. Instilling images of old growth palm trees gently touched by a western breeze, their green luster sparkling from the moonlight's reflection. Sandy paths leading down to the beach where long lines of waves produce crystalline reflections, disappearing until their swell mates follow. The undisturbed life has time to make patient and simply natural music. Tropical, remote, relaxing, and uniquely distinct, a wish to see the source is wisely balanced with the the understanding of the fortuitous conditions to hear sounds "Out of the Bloop."

Julia Bloop has crossed the listening path of Lost in a Sea of Sound once before. This was a 2017 Crash Symbols release titled Roland Throop. Some bits and pieces have been carried forward, but Out of the Bloop is a well focused composition all to itself. Close to forty five minutes divided across five tracks. These selections have time to build and settle their tranquilizing enchantments. Opening rhythms and slack key guitar dissolving into the cadence of life. A drone like collage, the intonations of daily work under increasing heat of the day. "Deserted Shore" provides a lazy respite, a mid day lullaby alleviating all responsibilities. The second side both prepares and gives the elegance all life centers around. Swaying melodies in perfect pace, the conscious absorbing this needed energy for rejuvenation and clarity. The last and longest track, "Set Us Free Of This World" combining piano, synthesizer and vocals with nature. A dreamlike drift until more songs from Julia are carried in again.

Released in late summer of this year by Patient Sounds. Cassettes can be ordered from the label using this link. Not sure how many  are in this edition, but they are currently available. The distance between releases giving thought to how much love and creativity Out of the Bloop holds.
