Matt Robidoux - at dust

There is something special in these selections from Matt Robidoux. Sparkling sounds beating with a rhythmic vibrancy then traversing aural spectrums to the droning lull of gentle waves making final landfall. Resting within this composition is the wisdom in understanding how the thresholds of uncharted creativity can be too much for a listening world. These sounds are brought back from the reaches of conscious exploration, then meticulously polished for an appreciative audience to enjoy. When listening to  Matt Robidoux, we can hear the distant places his mind grasps, his honing skills making it possible for efforts to become cherished passages in the world of music we all explore.

Like a raft ride on the river, at dust has a myriad of unique moments. Thankfully the most turbulent this composition gets is a class two, no guide needed. Matt Robidoux helms a big raft though, his talented friends all contributing to the incredible smoothness each pivot is made. The selections on at dust take genres and fold them like Origami, pop touching jazz and reverse side ambient facing kraut rock, on and on. Matt Robidoux must study Raumschach (German for Space Chess) and applies it to melody. His concepts in aural space are so three dimensional compared to the flat world we so often experience in music. This must have a lot to do with the selection and abundant amount of musicians collaborating on work with him. Like the vast array of musicians contributing to the preceding album Brief Candles released on Null Zone last year, at dust includes the help of Ky Brooks, Matt Norman, Cody Putman, Kris Force, Tony Gennaro, Mitch Stahlmann, Adam Hirsch, Jake Parker-Scott and Tim Russell, on selected tracks. Only Tony, Jake and Tim with Matt involved on both compositions. This amounts to twenty three people helping Matt Robidoux over both Brief Candles and at dust. In order for talented sounds to have cohesiveness, there must be a focal point they all revolve around and clearly Matt has created this.

This is an Already Dead Tapes and Records release in an edition of one hundred and twenty. There are only eight remaining at the time of these descriptive words being written. Last years Brief Candles is completely sold out and at dust is quickly on the same path. Excellent sounds and gorgeous presentation from Already Dead and Matt Robidoux. Don't wait on this if you would like a physical copy.
