Candi Nook - How I Invented Sound And Redesigned The Human Ear
Sweet treat or noise tribulation? This compilation of the early works by Candi Nook has a little of everything. Culled from seven very limited releases in the late 1990s to early 2000s, and adding additional unreleased material, the s P L e e N C o F F i N production of "How I Invented Sound And Redesigned The Human Ear" is the quintessential body sound for the UK's Candi Nook.
With a turbulent beginning, the first few tracks are relentless noise furies. To the point of questioning listening constitutions and artist mind set stamina. Quickly though, the procured selections begin to find pace and rhythm. This is not to say noise explosions have ended but become more balanced with mystified beats and sonic stalagmite drip spray. Candi Nook creating underground worlds unheard by ears, an aural landscape so refreshingly new, each listener thinking they are the first to ever explore. And deep within this massive volume of collected work is the underground river of grooves. A conduit to float upon, a pathway to even more remote fissures and passageways of harmonic proclivities. Amazingly, we are only halfway through. This s P L e e N C o F F i N production is a double compact disc.
The second half of How I Invented Sound And Redesigned The Human Ear begins with two previously unreleased selections. They are both chilled out slow burners, distant directions from the start of the first disc in this set. The third track come from a compilation on Fiend Recordings from 2001. "It Flies" is a Negativland haunt from an unknown UTC and dimension. The last batch of selections all stem from the 2001 cdr release Self Hinging Non-Rocking also on Fiend Recordings. Everything from this set is very well composed. Electronic melodies swirling with hungry digital dragon flies, a place of immersive serenity and pulsating energy.
From beginning to end, How I Invented Sound And Redesigned The Human Ear mutates in a marvelous manner. Candi Nook has all the chops to experiment with extreme noise, but the eccentric grooves, samples and beats makes this collection extremely pleasurable to listen to. From the way Candi Nook and s P L e e N C o F F i N kick this composition off, they send you in the noise direction, but that is not what How I Invented Sound And Redesigned The Human Ear is about. These tracks showcase more of raw and skillfully refined creativity that is on top of the sounds at the time and even into the future.
Released on s P L e e N C o F F i N in a six panel double disc full color fold out. Liner notes include tracks and what earlier release they were pulled from. Super nice from the sounds within to the finished product. Check it out for sure.
