Drew Gardner - Flowers in Space

Flowers in Space, a new album by Drew Gardner has been on the turntable for a while now. Something about these tracks... they are steeped with sonic history, they are fresh and vividly delightful, they are this genre and that, and they simply encompass the sounds from the world around us. Drew Gardner's guitar playing... you could describe this with or from so many influences or places, their would be strong connections to substantiate. Just add "transcends" before the descriptive sentence to make the statement accurate. But the listenablity (oh.,. i so want to make that a word) of Flowers in Space is acutely from the trio of musicians playing. Drew Gardner is an absolutely incredible song writer and guitarist, but this composition sustains its gorgeousness from three musicians in a tightly woven unison of harmonic nirvana.

With each listen of Flowers in Space, thoughts grow closer to a relationship with an African sound. Guitarist like Boubacar Traoré and Ali Farka Touré, rhythms so smooth and fluid, it would seem Tony Allen was somehow orchestrating them. The beauty of Flowers in Space is the connection to so much music we have heard, but still being a pinnacle of something new and different. This is a record that rides on sublime woven guitar pathways, bass grooves sinking deep and delightfully into the core and percussion that knows the exact pace and temperament for every single moment within these four tracks. If there is one album for 2023 that you are gonna keep gravitating back to and sharing with friends of all listening degrees...  Flowers in Space is going to be it without a doubt.

Released on Feeding Tube Records in a limited edition of three hundred. Flowers in Space is part of their Drowned Lands Series. Number five to be exact. This is a vinyl release and sounds amazing from the turntable.
