A motif is a short musical idea and the m e s h s o n g s ep is beautifully saturated with their salience. Like an orchid perched on limbs of giant trees, Matt Robidoux has sustained the commensalism between sonic tenor and vibrant aural offshoots. A mesmerizing quick plunge into lucid cacophony. Yes, these two words are almost descriptively opposite but this is how the m e s h s o n g s ep plays out. And yes again, these sounds are really good, articulately pronounced and replete with sparkling facets. Matt Robidoux has a creative talent pushing listeners to aural fringes while imparting unheard beauty with thoughtfulness and experience.
With each new release from Matt Robidoux, the fellow artists and musicians seems to expand. This release includes Ani Ivry-Block, Chuck Johnson and Matt Norman. Artwork is by Milo Moyer-Battick, who also designed the first release on the Air Tone label by Tenses titled "Gardening Motions". This release is still available and would be an excellent choice to pick up if purchasing the m e s h s o n g s ep cassette from Air Tone. The etching on the cassette case is a cool feature, hopefully this will continue for future editions from the label. Air Tone has begun with comprehensive artistry in both sound and style.
