Ricki Weidenhof - Church

Listen.... the faint whirling sound is the sonic compass just flipped open to find genre direction. The small dial spins like a fan in the palm of the hand. Amazingly the cassette has not even begun to play and already a little chaos is messing with the aural magnetic field. Ricki Weidenhof has found a devious groove of Church pop. Voices in unison and ethereal whispers. Glorious sonic light refracting in prismatic melodies, then disappearing into cavernous shadows. Church is slated as an EP with five songs in the book. With just under thirty minutes of music, this composition is longer than many "albums" in the current cassette universe. The most exciting feature of Ricki Weidenhof's creativity is how diversely fluid and snakingly groovy the sounds are. Wait.... christens thinks snakes are evil, but ok.... catholics don't really care. The third track "Dreary Field" and fourth "Extinction Meditation" sounded really sweet. Similar to an album by Vermont's Chris Wiseman that was listned to a lot "Maya Properties". But this is only a brief similarity as most of Ricki Weidenhof's sounds are bobble headed St. Christopher statues faced towards the windshield, rocking to the world beyond. 

 

Released on the Queens, New York label We Be Friends Records in cassette format. Clear shells with blue sparkles. Copies are currently available as well as some very cool other finds on the label's bandcamp page.
