The Spookfish - To The Flame

A perfect sonic recipe for nostalgic melodies blurred with pioneering sagacity. The Spookfish warms the heart with this new full length named To The Flame. A title evoking images of a moth finding it's pathway through the darkness to the light. A concept composition, To The Flame is the soundtrack for a video game. But before jumping in the rabbit hole and starting to check out the game, take a moment and listen to this release on its own. Think of To The Flame as a fluid selection of melodies, alluring, introspective, tranquil and focused. Sometimes, during a full listen, thoughts return to the original golden axe soundtrack and other times boards of canada - music has the right to children. But these are reference points to help understand the strong and radiant inner warmth To The Flame bestows. A sentimental feeling welling up, a refreshing notion of an artist developing ruminations into contemporary pieces. The addition of the longest track, Heavenly Light, adds a much appreciated new path. A sweet guitar selection that ties into the mood of the entire album. There is nothing like this selection within all the other tracks, but somehow this piece nestles in perfectly. To The Flame is a beautiful release on it's own. Makes the video game really serene as well.

Released on the Queens, New York label We Be Friends on cassette. The Spookfish is the long running project of  Dan Goldberg. Interesting, one of The Spookfish's first releases was on the Portuguese Mouca label in 2012 and was titled Moth/Butterfly. That release is not available physically, but can be heard on the Spookfish bandcamp page. To The Flame is currently available from We Be Friends bandcamp page.
