DAO - The Divine Inversion
The Divine Inversion weights heavy in thoughts. Dictation over drone, spoken word given a back drop of dazzling depth. Ambient gravity saturating feelings creating new outpouring. Although this has nothing to do with Pope Francis' passing, listening now cast reflection on the emotion tied to religion. The all day procession of mass and final resting place, The Divine Inversion seems to resonate at high vibrations after today. Noted in the last sentence of DAO's bandcamp description, "The goal is to subvert dogma and practice spiritualism". DAO embarks on this process by compiling sonic essences from Judaism, Islam and Christianity. I think in this order. Taking the three big dog religions, interestingly all originating from the old testament, and painting an aural landscape where all are equal. Given the same ambient framework, The Divine Inversion excels by equalizing the emotional emphasis of each. A really beautiful composition that has gotten a lot of replay. The flip of the cassette it the the entire first side backwards. This is the true hidden equalizer. A great thought in construct and implementation.
Going back to the goal subverting dogma and practicing spiritualism..... I have mixed feelings about this. If dogma makes people more thoughtful, compassionate, kind, empathetic, etc.. Then religion has a purpose. Sadly, the inner workings become twisted and greedy individuals stain the common denominating factor for all religions, which is to truly love the people around you. They are you, just like you with the same desires for happiness. Secondly, i am still unsure if most people know what spiritualism is? I have asked and many times and the response usually has something to do with nature. Nothing wrong with this connection, spiritualism could definitely be all nature, but the individuals responding this way many times have difficulty with the concept of spirit. So, nature shit is the answer.
Big fan of The Divine Inversion. Thank you Ryan Richard Beitler, the source of DAO. Love everything about this, especially the flip side reverse. Also, love the compositional roots. Means a lot. But really love the bass and depth on this recording, turn it up when listening.
Released on New York's Ephem- Aural label in an edition of cassettes that are currently available. Please take the time to listen to this one!
