Ian Wellman - Particularly Dangerous Situation
Gorgeous equilibrium sublimely changing sonic focus. This subjectively desolate and exquisitely saturated composition titled Particularly Dangerous Situation is meditative glowing coal. Ian Wellman using field recordings from the earliest part of 2025. Strong winds in Southern California fueling fire over the parched land were captured in various locations by Ian Wellman and meticulously curated into the body of work herein. Sounds seamlessly flow with oscillation between sonic destruction and reflecting tranquility. Using a canvas of natural chaos, keen mindfulness and experienced creativity has resulted in a masterwork of the genre. Which is also notable since beautifully ponderous ambient albums are rare and their own tranche.
Particularly Dangerous Situation spans across ten selections. There is a calming satiation with how the composition is constructed. Violence from the wind field recordings is unnerving over longer intervals. When the aural field is recast, a sigh of relief envelops the conscious. This peacefulness seems to be even deeper than normal making the field/ambient variations more pronounced if otherwise on their own. As an example, the consecutive tracks (Evening Report) and The Moon Turned Red follow the for-mentioned format. The beauty from Ian is how seamless the extremes interact. Ambience arriving almost forty five seconds into the second selection. This blur is even more gorgeous on the vinyl listen, difficult to see what track your on when listening to a record. Extremely well done and deserves the time to listen!
Released on Elevator Bath in on both black and clear vinyl. Records are scheduled to ship around January 23rd, 2026. There is a listening session scheduled on bandcamp for January 16, 2026 at 4:00 PM EST. If you read the bandcamp description on how Ian Wellman composed this album, there will surely be some interesting stories told during the listening session.
Forgot to note the heavy weighted experience in the production. All adds to how good this is!
