Adam Void - Stowaway On A Sinking Ship
Sounds stretching across generations, all sitting on the porch together. Songs handed down from grandparents along side new creations by the love filled inventive energy. Banjo, synthesizer, samples, poetry, and tape ingenuity are a few of the ingredients echoing through the valley. Stowaway On A Sinking Ship sounds like a futile endeavor, but Adam Void's newest composition elicits a meaningful raw and fresh energy for the inner spirit. On the track "(Untitled) 2", Adam plays with the album title as a tongue twister, sharing a little fun on an ineffective mode of getting somewhere.
There are twenty two tracks on this cassette. Sounds going in many directions with nothing over three minutes. The overall feel is a collage of singing, song writing and effects you would hear on a cross country journey. Mini ballads and melodies captured in the moment. A culmination of experiences and the weight of an unexplored world ahead, garnered with the enigmatic focus of Adam Void. Stowaway On A Sinking Ship has many twisting pathways, from the slightly haunting child sung "Daylight is Gone", and the noise intermission of "(Untitled) 3", then straight away into a toe tapping "No Fear", listeners are riding the tracks of the aural landscape of Adam Void. This composition is not for everyone. An understanding of the duality, appreciation by a majority of people in one collective direction also has an alternative view. Sometimes this alternative view could be cynicism or even greater love, but not the same values most are conditioned to believe. One viewpoint is never absolute, being correct or wrong, and thankfully there is more than one perspective. I think Adam Void has a wonderful interpretation on modern and folk music, i would not be writing about it otherwise. Probably none of my friends or family would agree, but then i just turn "Broke Cellphone" louder.
