Germ Class - s/t
Have been thinking about going back to share some relevant releases from the past. Without anything other than randomly pulling a tape of the shelf, this gorgeous album nicely found home in the cassette deck again.
Going back a few years, in 2015 German Army worked with Dunes on a project called Germ Class. This was the debut release for the project which later had Dimensions Of Value released on the OTA label in 2017 and Felt Up, a tape release in 2022 by Already Dead. In between the the later two releases in 2018, the label Dub Ditch Picnic released Bitter Values, a compilation on compact disc of both the debut release and Dimensions Of Value.
Also, the label SUBSIST & Faith Disciplines from VC, Spain released Eat Bitter (this album) on CDr in 2016 and very limited dubplate in 2019. Neither of which have ever been sold on discogs. The bandcamp link below is from the SUBSIST version. This makes four iterations of Germ Class - s/t in physical mediums, with the original cassette on the Night-People label from 2015. Night-People is no longer an active label but does have releases still for sale. Germ Class is available!
The balance from Dunes and German Army is special. Sonic edges both generate and disappear. Beautiful melodies with deep roots in the earth. Vocals reaching through sheer canyons, a bird in effortless flight. Moods changes, a little darker, just a bit more mysterious, rhythms fuse to subterranean drone. There is even a little reminder of Augustus Pablo somewhere far within.
