The High Sheriffs - High Sheriffs

Have spent many years looking through thrift store records for sounds like these. Here now and listening on cassette..... A cyclic return on both sides, who would have wagered cassettes would be rejuvenated, and the sounds of Appalachian roots? Matt Scherger and Jacob Sunderlin fly back, past the hot licks and overly groomed fineness of bluegrass and Chicago blues. Gently setting down on a porch front with friends and family, the creativity and relaxation consumes them with welcome.

The beauty of the High Sheriffs is their vast amount of musical interests and genres they take pleasure in. These selections stir memories of Bascom Lamar Lunsford (who has a version of Swannanoa Tunnel), Buell Kazee, the joy of Harry and Jeannie West, the subtle power of J.E. Mainer. And then, jumping to sounds like Mississippi John Hurt and the diversity of the trio Koerner, Ray & Glover. Not to mention a Hawaiian flirt on the the track "We are Waiting for the Sun" and the psychedelic track titled "Villagers". Through time, hills and woods, a mountain trail emerges to a clearing of High Sheriffs' unprocessed goodness. A hot pot of wisdom on the stove and welcoming grins from those pouring the nourishing cups. Hopefully you have an instrument slung around your back, because they are going to want you to join in.

Garden Portal is a newer Georgia label run by Michael Potter. With the first release in March of this year, the sounds from this label traverse a more specific direction than his all encompassing \\NULL|ZØNE// label. The start has been very good, High Sheriffs is the sixth release and only a few are left from an edition of one hundred. The only other cassette available is the fifth release, a batch bundle mate of High Sheriffs.

Only a few copies left out of one hundred. This needed to be said again.
