Directives - Protenomaly

Look above and see the sky. There is an ocean covering the entire planet. We can see various conditions of water vapor, smoke, moving mechanical creatures like aircraft and satellites. When light falls bellow the horizon, stars appear. What we don't see or even hear is the dense configurations of radio and satellite signals. This is how the description of Protenomaly begins. Sounds from the ocean above us. Electronic motion constantly traveling and absent from our perception. We can tune into single frequencies, but what if everything together creates the most unusually magnificent orchestra?

Directives is the project of D. Petri and Protenomaly is an hour long submergence in the opposite direction of down. Eleven tracks filled with fluctuating rhythms and anti-beats. These sounds struggle to extend across the vast atmosphere, and have unique creative abilities to harness distant signals at the end of there energetic projection. Protenomaly is completely mysterious and heavily weighted with amorphous tones of materialized spirits. And most excellently, Directives has a quieter and secluded component as the seventh track " Intrapersonal Collusion" splendidly offers. The words so far focused on the first side, the second side continues with a congruent aural world, but slightly more twisted. Beginning with "Society Toothpick Diorama", Directives focuses in specific sound waves. A flow of higher pitched damaged melodies circulating at the threshold of our listen capability. The B side ends with the longest track "Toward Fertile Grounds", a humid ambient piece using long stretches of field recordings and baked in wholesomeness.

This composition is released on cassette in an edition of sixty six copies. Everything is handmade, the cover on vintage paper, the black and white booklet of pictures and art, and an insert of circular symbols. The tapes are dubbed in real time. D. Petri is the curator of the Aubjects label out of Denver, Colorado. Lost in a Sea of Sound had the pleasure to listen and describe another Aubjects' release by Somnoroase Păsărele titled 0RT0. This is long sold out as many editions in the label's catalog are.
