Directives - Glimmer

The new release by Directives titled Glimmer is a fascinating construct of detailed rhythms. From the opening track "IS?", listeners will be delightfully astounded at how crisp and burnished these selections are. Meticulously Directives shapes long pieces into fully attained sonic forays. An underlying groove creates a deep listening path ripened with a raw and vigorous attention to aural constitute. This might seem like a mouthful to read, but plainly put, Directives has nostalgic branches to beats and rhythms while offering a beautifully refreshing creatively.

 

Then, as Glimmer pushes into later half of the composition, Directives creator D. Petri seems to turn the dial slightly. From the beat driven start, the sounds become a phantasm of their earlier counterparts. The strong foundations of patterns eroding away, exposing intricate constituents of aural wonder. Glimmer begins to mesmerize listeners with sonic fractals of it's opening selections. Amazingly the definition within 20Hz and 20kHz is absolutely vivid. The sonic clarity was the first striking element heard from track one "IS?" and continues until the final selection "transmute".

From the packaging and presentation of Glimmer, it would be unreasonable to think the sounds with were made with any less thought and care. D. Petri went deep in consideration, execution and love, putting both sound and presentation together. So much so, paraphrasing this description below, taken from the Directives bandcamp page, would be an inequity of highlighting everything done....

 

"Pro-pressed CDR in hand-painted / hand-stamped / hand-numbered paperboard jacket. Full color booklet on specialty paper, hand stapled / folded by the artist. Booklet encloses a small slip of blank notebook paper of specific significant origin, given randomized coverage of transparent shimmer. The recipient is invited to utilize this paper in a personally meaningful fashion, ex: write out a wish and burn. Package also includes full color accordion-fold mini-booklet, hand-cut / folded / stamped salvaged paperboard pull-strips for pocket items extrication of CDR (on R) and booklets (on L), and painted yellow outer salvaged paperboard strap w/ stamped & glued album title slip. Comes enclosed in salvaged plasti-zip bag for protection" 

Glimmer is scheduled for release today and is in an edition of two hundred. A beautiful composition and so worth listening to on a good sound system!
