Yengo - 冥° / Meido
Have spent some time with this release by Yengo. The sounds within stir feelings and set the conscious in a precarious state. The first track titled 0° / Reido is a pensive piece utilizing what sounds like old voice recordings being played from shellac 78s. The details are immaculate, such a beautiful six minutes. What follows is a twenty two minute title track, a much more ominous recording. Oscillators seem to slowly diminish and augment with a distant background of slowed recordings, close to monks chanting in a monetary and being heard through muffling doors. The sounds penetrate thoughts, taking listeners on treks deeper and deeper trough their own spiritual constructs. At some point 冥° / Meido unhinges and moves without melodies at all, a nightmarish dream with beginning and end lost in the cacophony.
Released on Zouenkeikaku out of Tokyo. Cassette editions housed in bamboo skin. Beautiful presentation and appropriately delivered in a method these disturbing recordings should be discovered in.
