Body Improvement Calendar - Business Major

Outside the windscreen is dangerously dark, the incandescent lights struggle to illuminate the road. These conditions continue to reoccur every morning on the drive to work. Like the lights, the cassette deck in the vehicle strains and wobbles out sounds from Body Improvement Calendar. The tape has been inserted for months now, providing inspiration for the work day to come... Voices hiding behind the rhythms, they want to be heard but always ask for you to come to them. At times, when the road noise quiets, a brief moment of clarity surfaces. Business Major speaks in profound reality, then disappears behind blocky distorted melodies. The process is repeated every morning, slowly the instructions and self help find connecting thoughts. The work day becoming more clearly seen for what it really is.

The selections within Business Major contribute to the title. Song titles planning out the perfect business pathway, from "The Chips are Stacked Against Me" to "Leveraging That Social Presence" then "Achieving Productive Synergy".  The context of these sounds are like chapters in a textbook, some make perfect sense and others twist the mind beyond understanding. Rhythms used by Body Improvement Calendar are the binding spiral rings of this manual of business success. Grooved out methodical day dreams forming the distractions each work day throws out. Business Major succeeds in strengthening the ability to work more efficiently and simultaneously erodes the desire to be there at all.

Body Improvement Calendar is an alternate project of German Army. Yes, this release has been out since the beginning of the year and may be difficult to find physical cassette copies. There was one reasonably priced on discogs. The contributing label, Opal Tapes out of Newcastle Upon Tyne, has the digital available, but the cassettes are all gone.

Previously Lost in a Sea of Sound described Body Image Corporation, a release on Skrot Up. This is the same self improvement project by German Army. The BIC acronym reminds me of how the punk band MDC used their three letter acronym.
