Rrill Bell - False Flag Rapture
Rrill Bell's False Flag Rapture is divided by the flip of a cassette, but the two long tracks on each side play as one complete composition. The aural landscape within is a beautifully mysterious juxtaposed world of vast expanses and elaborate detail. Imagine looking out the viewing window of a spacecraft while hearing the computers and machinery within perform their functions. Or, sitting on a front porch with the door open to a blazing wood stove, a cold wind blows the hanging chimes and causes trees to creak and clack. Rrill Bell has created an atmosphere for bodies to float on carpets made of circuitry. Warmth and security just below while floating above a world of infinitely deep crevices and chasms. False Flag Rapture has been gathering momentum for six years. His intentions were to create a composition around a recording of his late grandmother singing an Easter hymn she remembered from fifty years ago. Her spur-of-the-moment vocalizing in song is included within False Flag Rapture as well as her vibrant love from the joy of family. As a whole, this composition dramatizes the cosmos in almost a haunting persuasion, while the aggregate of sonic slivers, including Rrill's grandmother, creates a heated blanket to keep listeners cozy.
False Flag Rapture follows the clear vinyl release titled Ballad of the External Life, both on the Austin, Texas label Elevator Bath. In between these releases Lost in a Sea of Sound also had the pleasure to describe Blade's Return a hybrid digital release. Of these three releases, False Flag Rapture seems to be more of an extension of Ballad of the External Life, very fitting since they are both Elevator Bath releases. Blade's Return is different and exists on it's own branch. As with all Elevator Bath editions, False Flag Rapture receives all of the production love with vibrantly colored multiple fold out paneled j-card and outer Norelco case sleeve with art by Rrill Bell.
Copies of False Flag Rapture and Ballad of the External Life are both currently available from Elevator Bath.
