Jeanne Demessieux - The Decca Legacy

Much of the music described on Lost in a Sea of Sound revolves around current releases, the labels and artists creating them. This post is a little different. Thoughts of sharing incredible sounds and art with people in the process of discovery is the main goal of all this writing and picture taking. Have been listening to these recordings that were re-released last year in a box set. They are excellent and so gorgeous.

Jeanne Marie-Madeleine Demessieux born in Montpellier on February 13th, 1921 was a French organist, pianist and composer. There is a lot of material to read about her, and it is easy to find. This box set titled The Decca Legacy came out last year and is still available. I think you can find most of the vinyl albums on discogs if you wanted to go that route, but by the time all were collected they would cost more. So the Decca re-release with huge book included is a great option.

On these eight albums, there are lots of variations of organs, composers and even one recording backed by an orchestra. Jeanne Demessieux was extremely talented and someone we should all have the pleasure to hear play. Even if all that remains are recordings.

There are many places to purchase this box set and also places for sound previews.

This is a very nice video by Frederic Munoz done last year on what would have been Jeanne's 100th birthday.
