BIGCAT - Atlas

Ancient stone shaped in impossible form, mystery surrounds creative abilities. The current experience exists because rock survives time most elegantly. Civilizations built upon wood bones have long decomposed back into the earth. The sounds from both ancient societies can only be speculated, recording devices a century plus old, rhythms and speech instantly vanish with cultural extinction. Fortunately BIGCAT has found temporal channels to reach both back and forward through the constant pace of time. These journeys of observational listening have collected beats, melodies, words and everyday sounds from worlds of people beyond our thoughts.

Atlas is deliciously crafted with sonic flavors from forgotten realms. An odyssey of heartwarming selections built upon tribal rhythms and courtly ceremony. Sometimes these passages expand into the moment, like a field recording of all that surrounds, then sonic paths move into dreamlike collages of worlds apart from ours. Kinda want to say there is some early African Head Charge vibes, but much more refined and less abrasive. This leads to the thought Atlas could be considered somewhat of a dub album. Since the term is so broad in current times, let us use this genre stamp with gentle understanding. Atlas is really outstanding from start to finish. The beauty is it's controlled diversity and beat filled tranquil ambient radiance. A composition meant for long duration in any listing form.

The physical release for Atlas was on both compact disc and cassette. The version for the Lost in a Sea of Sound description is the tape. Interesting the compact disc is titled Rasa and was released on the Lancashire, UK label Wormhole World. The cassette seems to be a self release by BIGCAT from Oakland, California, and titled Atlas. The tracks are the same on both physical versions, just in a little different order. Copies of the compact disc are sold out from Wormhole World but there are a handful on the BIGCAT bandcamp page. The cassettes are available without any red few remaining notices on bandcamp.
