Spelunkers - Music From the Widow Jane
Sounds emerge and disappear in the dim light of man made necessity. Like looking into the cosmos we hear and see with the crafts of our focus, yet understanding is something that may only come with time. This process is continued over time, with no apparent gain until a small breakthrough breaks through. Fortunately for our listening pleasure, their is no continual push to learn more and more. We sit back and hear deeply, taking in the most beautifully creative work from those who share. Our minds are shook and rattled or gently placed in tranquil stasis. Sometimes one sonic offering does both, other times we are left with thoughts gently spinning and emotions tendered towards the edges of our most inner feelings.
Music From the Widow Jane is nostalgically dark and fulfillingly warm. Sounds emerge and wander through thoughts with a glistening residue of cascading life. Then as gently as they were summoned, aural beauty dissolves with the erosive force time instills. Spelunkers is Bill Brovold and Jay Kreimer. Both artists holding the creative love for building unique instruments. Both artists well skilled in using the sounds from their instruments with listenable radiance and immeasurable sonic tangents. Also on Music From the Widow are guest artists Rob Bethea playing euphonium and Cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm. The combined experience of this group is heavy. The combined output of sonic collaboration is anything but. Patience, temperament and like mindedness producing a composition for many repeated listens. Much to explore from the Widow Jane Mine in Rosendale, New York and the recently closed Kingston cave filled with new flowing water.
Released on Tymbal Tapes on cassette. Not sure exactly how many there are, but do know there are only eight remaining at the time this is written. Tymbal Tapes has not had a batch in a good while, but without any hesitation, the newest batch of three compositions is almost gone.
Listen and order the physical copy. As usual, striking artwork and layout by Tiny Little Hammers
