Parish / Potter - On and Off

Moving past the lineage and histories of Michael Potter and Shane Parrish (which there is a lot) brings this read to the newest collaborative composition by both artists. Tilted On and Off, a body of work exploring free formed electric and acoustic guitar creativity. With side long tracks dedicated to each, both electric and then acoustic, the blur of sounds reaches deep into conscious recesses. Michael and Shane are intertwined as eternal champions in a Moorcock fantasy. Plateaus of energized strings dropping vast topographic relief to empty chasms of droning obscurity. Then, hovering together in a tangled vibrato like Hindu gods traversing the sky.

The first side titled On and Off delivers raw sonic transcriptions filled with organic creativity. Parish and Potter teeter in a gorgeous richly filled aural maelstrom. Sounds can be heard rolling up and down a swirling vortex, traversing distances with ease and cohesion. Both artists with unrestrained abilities for sonic mayhem, have successfully understated their approaches allowing a well balanced composition to surface. The second side continues with equal cohesion, this time using an acoustic approach. The edgy creativity still whole and present, but with acoustic guitars the affair seems much more nostalgic. Titled Here and There, this passage could have been pulled from archived recordings dating back to the sixties John Fahey era. A extremely beautiful composition of one artist making another artist sound even more accomplished than they already are. Magnificent stuff on both sides!

Cassettes released on Michael Potter's \\NULL|ZØNE// label in an edition of one hundred. Copies have quickly dwindled to fifteen. On and Off  was part of the fall batch with another release titled Michael Potter and Friends. This tape is also down to fifteen remaining if you are wondering.
