Daniel Szwed - Splinter

A heavy pull back through time, the rhythms on Daniel Szwed's new album titled Splinter calling all thoughts. With an opening selection sounding like a lost gem from the early eighties Daniel Szwed effortlessly transports listeners though time and space. This is far from a homage to the past. All tracks are titled S1 through S6, the second entry includes the piano of Natalia Górecka while the first held vocals and lyrics from Jessica. Of the six selections only the fifth does not hold a guest appearance. Mala Herba provides vocals, lyrics and bass on S3 and S6 and Liam Andrews with bass, flutes and additional percussion on S4. The entire composition seems to ratchet down through the middle after the initial procession of heavy beats. Patience, ambience, whispering vocals and meditative flute, all part of the entourage to the slower paced rhythm of Daniel Szwed's creation. The longest track and the only slection with just Daniel Szwed is a heavy post industrial sledge. Seven plus minutes with a reminiscent feel to an SPK album. Nice sounds and perfectly moody. The last selection seems to balance all of the components of this composition, rhythms and choir like vocals, a ceremonial beckoning for sure.
