trikorder23 - much time no horse

Niko Lazarakopoulos is back with the Trikorder23 project. Over three years ago BLUMSTER made it's way through Lost in a Sea of Sound. This was a very limited vinyl release on Cosmic Winnetou, the newest release titled Much Time No Horse on Cosmic Winnetou is as well. There were a few guests musicians for one track on BLUMSTER, but this time Niko has added Trikorder 23 Clubmembers all the way through. This group includes Christoph Szeteli , Joachim Henn, Klemens Rack (on the first record), Michael Herm, Roland Wendling. Not sure if everyone is from Stuttgart, but the composition was recorded there.

Rhythms working their way through the sonic thicket. Guitar notes gently pushing the raw cadence, percussion is the revolving engine. These sounds begin with a bump and a clash, like the mechanism had a few rusty sticky spots when it began to move. Slowly the motion becomes powerfully fluid. Musicians working seamlessly together, creating a meditative meeting of like minded artists. Thoughts of how things began dissolve into the reality of how good this sounds now. Guitar is played once again with patience and introspection, like a blanket thrown over a pulsating beat, keeping it rested and quiet for the moment. This is the emotion and feel the first side from the composition titled Much Time No Horse. A longer track titled "Son, Live in Rio" nestled between both opening and closing beautiful stringed melodies.

The second side explorers more of what the first side touched on, adding some twisted soundscapes for the mind to get lost in. Five tracks in total, the opening takes off with a skewed guitar melody. Titled "Knirz", almost bluesy in a way, just warped through time and experience. The second track "Taxi", hones in on the long recording from the first side. And here is where a comparison will be used. The vibrant long jam "Son, Live in Rio" from side one and "Taxi" have a few elements eliciting thoughts of the early eighties Penguin Cafe Orchestra. It is brief, but the flowing rhythm created by all musicians along with the sweet uplifting vibe graze a few aspects from Simon Jeffes & Helen Liebmann.

Deeper into the second side on "We Tried So Many Times But ….", a slow dripping melody with guitar and percussion in perfect symmetry with each other. This one is almost like a creaking wooden ship imparting a touch of seasickness on the all those aboard. The piano driven "Laxmal" is a directional change for Much Time No Horse. A patient unprocessed melody with field recorded life. The last track "Tingel in a Tunnel" is not on the bandcamp digital. A world of plucked and scratched strings lifting away with each note. Like a electrified surface birds touch down on, lifting off again to escape.

Much Time No Horse was released by Cosmic Winnetou in late fall of this year. There is also two other releases in this batch, Günter Schlienz's Lissajous and Navel's Ambient2, In Space. Copies are currently available for all releases.
