Tenses — Gardening Motions

Nestled deep in a tropical bamboo forest, the sounds from Gardening Motions slowly spiral outward. Organic percussion formed by flowing water beading across hollow earthen fixtures, a clearing in the lush canopy allowing radiant warmth to filter down. A piano plays in nostalgic dreams as it decays from a western settler's ambitious but doomed journey. The jungle swallows attempt at civilization allowing only harmonious existence. Pulled bows resonate with the lowest timbre as darts and arrows sing with highly pitched quick attune. Time steps forward in equal distant strides. The beauty of this humid swelter is living in accordance with surrounding factors. On the third selection titled "Condensed Silk", the confluence of a commensurable continuance causes the most appreciated turbulence. Sonic energy welling up from deep reverberating depths, crest of jumbled waves turning white and dispersing into the crystalline air. This is true splendor, the interaction of a sunken contralto with soprano trails of burning meteors. And we are only half way though Gardening Motions....

Catherine Debard has been tremendously appreciated by Lost in a Sea of Sound. A couple YlangYlang compositions and another project named Isness, all of which were on the Crash Symbols label. This makes her newest project Tenses with a release titled Gardening Motions an album with elevated expectations. From a sonic standpoint, my goodness... hopefully future listeners have the proper listening mechanisms to fully engage the depths and loftiness of this elegant piece. From the creative material position, these selections are the modern day choir for the highest ceremony. Majestic is pretty much my experience as "what if we" concludes.

Released on the San Francisco label Air Tone in cassette format. Not sure what the number of copies is for this edition, but Gardening Motions will be sold out at some point soon in time. The label Air Tone is curated by Matt Robidoux and currently flies under the radar just a bit. Most likely to be increasingly special with future releases.
